Translating in Style: German to English Financial Reports
It starts by analysing the complex nature of and multiple target groups addressed in financial reports, before looking at the various text types involved and their language requirements. After that, participants will revisit the general rules of good English style and how they apply in context. Linguistic and cultural differences between the source and target texts will also be discussed and concrete examples of common problems and their solutions given. Practical tips on official and other resources will be offered and the differences between UK, US, and “international” English examined. Group exercises will allow participants to test what they have learned, while a reference list will permit further reading.
The seminar can be booked as a package together with “Schönschreiberei für FinanzübersetzerInnen”, to be presented by Lisa Rüth, which will be held on the following day.
